Care instructions
Your terrarium is more than just a souvenir, it is a living reminder of your time with loved ones and friends. With a little care, your plants can continue to grow and thrive for years to come.
How to water
Succulents do not need a ton of water, less is more!
-
Do not water your succulents every day, it is best to make sure the soil is completely dry before watering.
-
If your succulents are in a bright spot, it is recommended to water them every 7-10 days.
-
If your succulents are in a low light spot, it is recommended to water them every 2-4 weeks.
-
Do not water the leaves. Add a small amount of water directly to the soil to prevent other parts of the plant from rotting.
-
Watering depends solely on the location of your plant, depending on humidity, temperature and light availability. If you have further questions about watering your succulents, send an email to plantpartyobx.com and we will give you our best advice.
Pro Tip: If you’re unsure if your succulent needs to be watered, wait a few more days as overwatering is the most common issue for these types of plants.
Light requirements
The more light, the better!
-
Succulents thrive with sunlight, the best placement is where they can receive the most sunlight throughout the day.
-
Bright, direct sun is ideal but bright, indirect sun can also work as an environment. They should have up to 6 hours of sunlight a day.
-
You can put your succulents outside, but keep an eye on temperature as succulents are able to thrive between 60-80 degrees. Higher temperatures may cause sunburn and affect colors. Temperatures below 40 degrees can potentially stress the plant or cause it to freeze.
Pro Tip: One of the best inside areas for a succulent is a window sill facing the south.
soil & environment
Your terrarium is built with layers that help your plants thrive.
-
Well-draining soil is key for healthy roots. If there is any reason that you must replace the current soil you have, your nearby hardware store or lawn and garden store will have soil succulent potting mix available.
-
The rock and sand layers help prevent excess moisture. They act as layers to allow the roots to soak up what water they need while draining the excess water rapidly to prevent root rot.
-
Keep your terrarium in a room-temperature environment. As said before, they thrive in 60-80 degrees as it mimics their natural habitat. A warmer environment promotes healthy growth and vibrant colors.
-
Avoid placing it in very humid or overly cold areas. High humidity can lead to fungal infections, mushy leaves, and rot. Cold areas will likely freeze the plants, resulting in rot and mushy leaves that cannot be saved.
